Fire Safety

Fire safety is something that we all have to bear in mind at some point during our day, whether you are lighting a candle or frying a batch of chips. Even the smallest flames can be dangerous, especially if children or animals are around. At these times more than others, it is important to properly adhere to fire safety rules.

The rules themselves are relatively easy to understand and carry out, as long as you do not panic. Most of them are simply common sense: it would be obvious that it would be dangerous to place a lit candle next to a curtain, or leave the grill on in the kitchen. You should always place candles in candle holders, which also seems obvious, but it may be tempting to just leave it on a table. No matter how even the tablecloth may seem, there are all kinds of factors that could lead to the candle being knocked over.

It is important to take care outside as well. Barbecues and bonfires can be a lot of fun, but can also be dangerous if they are not handled correctly. Staying well away from the flames is a good idea, especially if there are children around. In the case of a barbecue, never light one that will be bigger than you need, as this would be an unnecessary risk. Disposing of a barbecue is just as important, if it is a disposable type. It is important to try to let it cool down before depositing in any waste facility.
